What names a player should not use in Among Us?

Choosing the right name for a character can be an important part of Among Us, and there are definitely some names that players shouldn’t use anymore.

Choosing a bad name can get players ejected or killed early, while a great one can allow players to fly under the radar for a while. Because of this, many players want to find names that are non-sus, or not suspicious. While some naming conventions might seem clever, there are definitely a few that players shouldn’t use anymore.

When playing Among Us, most people want to choose the least sus names possible. This way, they don’t draw unwanted attention from other crewmates, and they also don’t put a target on their backs for the Impostor. So, choosing the right name is vital.

To name characters after personal pronouns like “you” and “me” that might draw an unwanted attention. It may get a few laughs (although, probably not after months of people doing it), but it’s a pretty tired naming convention now. Players may find it annoying, so they’ll either eject players with names like “us” and “them” early on, or the Impostor will take care of “them” for everyone. An another example would be naming a character after its color, or trying to confuse others by naming a character the wrong color, is still pretty popular. That also means its extremely overused. So, while using colors to confuse players, like naming a red character “Yellow,” might seem like a good idea, it’s really not – especially for innocent crewmates. Having people named after colors, and especially the wrong colors, can make the game chaotic. This is perfect for Impostors, who can use that chaos to their advantage, but the confusion can lead to crewmates quickly losing the game because no one knows if players are calling out the actual color or someone’s name.

Having no name at all, or a “blank” name, was pretty popular in Among Us for a while. It was a quick way to confuse other players that could sometimes help a blank-named player avoid being called out. This trick may have been clever at first, but now it’s just annoying and suspicious. Entering a game with a blank name or almost no name at all is a great way to get ejected or killed almost instantly, so most players will probably want to avoid using it now.

The game is always changing, and player perceptions change with it. So, names that were once thought to be clever can now feel outdated or even suspicious. As players continue thinking up new and interesting ways to name their characters, these overused names should definitely be avoided now.
