Among Us Map tasks: What are they?

Tasks in Among Us are divided into four different types: Common, Short, Long, and Visual. The Crewmates perform these tasks, and Impostors only pretend to do them. Keeping an eye on who is and who isn’t working is a good way to catch impostor , since it’s sometimes hard to fake doing a task. Currently, there are around forty tasks in Among Us.

Common tasks in Among Us

As the name suggests, common tasks are the activities that are common to every single player in the game, including imposters. You can use these tasks as an alibi for your safety or trick your crewmates stating the tasks.

There is always a fixed number of common tasks that are assigned to every map. The game host can change the number of common tasks for every map through the settings. The most common tasks include basic stuff like Fix Wiring or Swipe Card missions. While some tasks, like Chart Course and Fuel Engines, are available on every map in Among Us so far, some tasks may only be available on a single map (like Fix Weather Node, available in Polus)

Short tasks in Among Us are typically completed in a single step and require minimal effort. These duties make up most of Among Us’ Airship tasks and are spread across all of the map’s rooms. Each player will receive different short tasks to complete, so they aren’t as useful for weeding out Impostors. Still, if a user is taking an unusually long time to finish a short task, it could be a sign that they’re up to something fishy. However, they could also be struggling to complete these chores since some can be frustrating to finish.

Examples of short tasks:

Clean toilet: Players need to rapidly move a plunger in one of the four bathroom stalls in the Lounge area to increase the pressure and unclog the toilet.

Decontaminate: This Among Us task requires Crewmates to use the hose in the Main Hall area to wash themselves off. Players need to interact with the hose and wait for the percent meter that appears to drop before the duty is complete.

Fix Shower: This Among Us task requires players to visit the Showers and hit one of the shower heads with a hammer to straighten it. Users can charge their hammer swings if they don’t want to tap or click repeatedly.

Long tasks in Among Us typically include various steps or require players to wait for long periods of time. These duties are more involved and can leave Crewmates vulnerable to being murdered by an Impostor if they aren’t mindful about who’s around them.

Sort Records: Players will find four folders scattered on the table in the Records room. They must pick them up one by one and place them into the drawers found in the room as well.

Empty Garbage: Taking out the trash consists of wiggling a bag of refuse out of a container and then pulling a lever to empty one of the Airship’s trash chutes. This task is found in the Meeting Room, Medical, or the Kitchen.

Develop Photo: This task is new to Among Us, but it is a lot like the MedBay task from The Skeld. Players need to drag three blank photos found in the Main Hall into a vat of liquid and wait 60 seconds. They can close the task while they’re waiting for the image to soak. Once the first step is complete, Crewmates need to remove the photos from the liquid to complete the task.

Reset Breakers: Crewmates have to head to Electrical and turn on each breaker in order, starting from 1 and ending on 7 to complete the task. If one breaker is pulled out of order, the entire panel will reset.

Visual tasks mean that other players can see a visual indicator of the task being completed. These tasks are challenging for Impostors to fake, and can be a sure-fire indicator of a lone Crewmate’s innocence. However, The Airship map contains no visual tasks. The lobby’s host can also disable the visual effects of these tasks in  Options.

There’s a lot of potential shenanigans that can go down in every round of Among Us. However, the objective is always the same: Crewmates must survive long enough to complete their tasks, while Impostors must pick them off one by one without exposing their real identities.

Crewmates can achieve victory by completing tasks scattered around the map. Finishing enough of these will thwart the Impostors without having to identify all of them. However, tasks can take time and cover up a large amount of the screen, making it also very risky to focus on them without a plan. But, after learning how tasks actually work it can become very easy for the Crewmates to organize and win.

Even if you’re an Impostor, tasks are still vital to surviving in Among Us. They’ll need to have a list of jobs they were completing in order to stay hidden among the crew members.

Thankfully, Impostors aren’t entirely left in the dark. When playing as the bad guys, you’ll be provided a list of possible tasks that you can say you were doing.

You need to be careful as to which task you fake. Not only do some have animations alongside them that can be seen, specific ones only take place in certain areas.

That means that if you’re faking a Common, Short, or Long task in a certain area, it better match up to wherever you were standing and acting like you were doing it.
